Mohapi refutes lack of funds

Eight ladies team set to compete in the Women Super League tournament on Saturday.

They should have started their league games on April 21, 2018 after the awards which took place at Bambhatha Sports Arena.

“We had and Annual General Meeting immediately after the awards but we were informed that our games would kick off on April 21”, said the Secretary of Women Supper League Ms Baholo Motene.

Motene said before games started, they were called by the Secretary General of the Lesotho Football Association Mr Mokhosi Mohapi.

He told them they would not go on with their games because they have to align themselves with men teams’ league as alluded by FIFA.

“By that time we were left with just one week”, said the Secretary.

As a result they will start their league games in August, 2018.

Again they were informed about the African Cup of Nations Mohalalitoe was engaged in against Eswatini (Swaziland). Therefore players were supposed to honour the national duty.

Motene said in order to keep their players active they prepared a tournament for their teams.

Therefore a date of May, 5 was set as commencement of the tournament.

According to Motene on May 4, at around 5 pm the Women Super League Chairperson Mr Chris Bullock called her and said LeFA is unable to fund the event, hence they have to postpone to May, 19.

LeFA General Secretary Mr Mokhosi Mohapi agreed that he notified Women Super League management that they should align with men season.

“We sat down with them and come to good terms as to how they should go about. But we were delayed by technical logistics”, said Mohapi.

Mohapi refuted that he said LeFA lacks  funding.

“It is a lie, LeFa has got enough money to run its activities and competitions, who ever says that  puts LeFA into disrepute”, said LeFA Secretary.

Therefore, the tournament is scheduled to play as thus on May, 19:

Southern teams at Makoanyane:

12:00: Rovers vs Mafeteng Sisters

14:00: LDF vs Sky Battalions

Northern team at Kick4 Life grounds

12:00: Stoko vs Basetsana

14: 00 Kick4Life vs Berea Ladies

The secretary said from there they will make arrangements for the following games. But it would be after the weekend of the 26th.
