Lesotho Cricket Association sends under 19 team to Potchefstroom, South Africa.
This was revealed in the sending off ceremony held by LCA at Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission (LSRC) last Wednesday.
The President of LCA Mr Sebajoa Sebajoa told the sports reporters who were gathered there in numbers that two teams are scheduled to play in RSA and Botswana this month.
Sebajoa said under 19 boys team will be in the North West Province in RSA where it would be at loggerhead with its counterparts from August 17 to 29, 2018.
The President showed that teams in this tournament are divided into two groups; hence Lesotho is in group B.
“The first team to play against Lesotho is Mozambique, and then followed by Ghana, Gambia and Nigeria.
Sebajoa said two top teams in each group will qualify for the semi-finals and finals.
He said his team is in division two. If they play well they would be promoted to division one.
Three leading teams will join the other two clubs which are already in waiting and represent Africa in RSA next year (2019) in the International Cricket Council tournament.
Sebajoa further said senior women team jets to Botswana where they would be playing in the Botswana Cricket Association tournament at Gaborone on August 19 to 27.
Teams that will showcase in Botswana include Lesotho, Malawi, Botswana, Mozambique and Sierra Leon. He said Zambia withdrew at the last minute.
It has been learned that ICC runs a programme whereby national teams are expected to participate in international activities. The teams that perform well would be allocated rankings.
Therefore ranking will determine the opportunity to get lucrative financial support from ICC.
The funding would be utilized for the development of the cricket in the relevant country.
It was highlighted that the big challenge Lesotho encounters includes lack of professional infrastructure as far as cricket is concerned.
Secondly, cricket even though it has been long established in the country but not many people know about it.
Two captains of the teams promised that they will lift Lesotho flag high. They said the coaches had play their part, hence it is upon them to play theirs.
Sello Mahanika and Boitumelo Phelanyane showed that they trained very hard for the preparations of these tournaments.
They said they were accessed with all opportunities for their preparations to be a success.
