Likuena bounced out of the tournament after conceding an own goal which meant they lost on away goals rule.

All eyes were on a new Likuena coach Mr Thabo Senong who was in the dugout for only his second game. After a goalless draw in Ethiopia many Likuena supporters expected to see an all attacking team but did not happen much to their dismay.

Likuena conceded in the second half hence meant they had to win the match to advance to the next round of qualifiers but ended in a draw of 1-1.

Senong disclosed that he did not have enough time to work with the boys for this game, but with a little they had done there was progress. He was quick to dismiss the idea that his team failed to progress over individual errors.

“No player was at fault for conceding that goal on the run of play, we were just unlucky. I still believe in this team, I believe Likuena can still be a powerful force because we created problems for Ethiopia both today and in the reverse fixture.

“We will work hard and we will communicate with their respective coaches and monitor them. I still need time to watch them play in the Econet Premier League in order to get the right combinations.” said Senong.

Senong further explained that there are no regulars in his team. He reiterated that football is about form, discipline and match fitness meaning players that are selected or called up must match up those criteria.

Performance in their respective clubs also contributes for a call up, but of course he could do some radical changes to transform Likuena into a very solid team.

The Likuena coach lastly praised his players because they were not exposed in both legs. Luck was just not on their side especially in today’s fixture where they hit the poles three times.

He promised that they will improve as a team in the upcoming matches, hence advance further.
