It is an extreme honour and privilege that CFL announces that under the auspices of the International Chess Federation, it has been offered the hosting rights of the 2019 ZONE 4.5 YOUTH UNDER 16 TEAM CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP by the African Chess Confederation. The event is scheduled to start on the 22nd November and end on the 30th November 2019.
The event has an Olympiad-like setup in that teams have five players, of which at least two must be ladies and one must be a reserve. It also has a team captain or manager. So the players collect individual points for the team.
We have gladly accepted the offer and now we are on the quest of preparing our teams. Below is a list of players who have been shortlisted and will have to play a closed tournament on the 9th to 10th November 2019 at Scenery Guest House in Maseru.
They are candidates who have played well in the High Schools’ Chess Championships and some who have played well also in the juniors’ chess championship of 2019.
