Red Skins males Volleyball Club from Maseru grabbed second position in the Intertownship Volleyball Tournament which took place in Ladysmith, Republic of South
They managed to pocket R4, 000.00 while the winner Spartans from RSA snatched R8, 000.00.
The tournament which attracted 12 men and 13 women teams hustled from the 13 to the 15 December, 2019 at Ladysmith Indoor Sports Complex.
Countries participated in this endevour were Lesotho, RSA, Swaziland and Botswana.
Lesotho was represented by Mahlaseli and Red Skins males’ teams and Mahlaseli, Red Skins and Lepereng (LOC) women teams.
Women Red Skins and LOC did not go beyond pool stages, while Mahlaseli qualified to the semifinals and became position four. Mahlaseli’s journey in male category ended in the preliminaries too.
“According to Red Skins head coach Mr Tšepo Raletooane they qualified for the finals after beating the host (Team 7) by 3-1.
Raletooane said the level of competition was very high. He showed that the team that beat them was comprised of players from RSA and Botswana; as a result they gained experiences from this competition.
He further showed that teams included players from other countries such as Mozambique and others.
Raletooane indicated that all teams from Lesotho were self-sponsored. The affiliations were R1, 500.00 and R1, 000.00 for men and women respectively.
Prizes for males’ category were R8, 000.00, R4, 000 and R1, 500.00. Women: R6, 000.00, R3, 000.00 and R1, 5000.00.
This was the first time Ladysmith (Team 7) hosted the competition, but it is anticipated that it would be an annual event.
