Econet rugby league showed competitiveness at its first games which kicked off at Makoanyane grounds in Maseru last Saturday.
Six teams participated in the Econet Lesotho rugby league.
So many unusual things happened, for examples the defending champions Liqhomane were beaten by NUL Spears 6 – 3.
Liqhomane played well in the first half, but manifested fatigue in the second half.
The second game which took spectators by surprise was between Mabote Beavers and Maseru Warriors. Warriors collected 16 points against 9 for Beavers.
This game was interesting because Beavers seemed to be under dogs but portrayed a very good play. Warriors looked very experienced and good body build.
In an exclusive interview Mabote Beavers coach Letsielo Mabitle told Lesotho Sports Blizz that the opponents beat his team technically.
“The game was 50/50 so they capitalized on the mistakes we made”, said Mabitle.
Mabitle indicated that his boys were good it tackling, therefore he should work on the defence and player deployment.
“Their movements were always late”, continued the coach.
On the other side Maseru Warriors coach Mr Morapeli Motaung showed that his team was under pressure, therefore, he supposed to prepare them psychologically.
He said the officials made poor decisions most of the time. But he was adamant that players need to concentrate on the match.
Motaung claimed that his boys undermined the opponents, and then it did not work for them. That is why after half time he had to change the strategies.
They had to leave the ball flow than using too much strength.
“I am not happy even though we won because we did not play well as I was expected”, concluded Motaung.
In the third game Giants harassed Roma Kings 41 – 3. The following league games would take place at Mabote on next Saturday.
The league is sponsored with a tune of M100, 000 by Econet Lesotho.
